BOIL WATER 7 7 2024 640 copy

Boil Water Notice for Residents in Areas of Walnut Hill

Approximately 94 homes in the Beauregard Avenue area of Walnut Hill in Petersburg are without water this morning. Petersburg Public Works and contractor crews continue to repair a water main valve in the neighborhood. When repairs are complete and the water is back on, residents should boil all the tap water used (see instructions below).

Residents having questions about water usage should call (804) 733-2407.

BOIL WATER NOTICE

Failure to follow this advisory could result in stomach or intestinal illness.

The Virginia Department of Health in conjunction with the Petersburg Health Department, and the Petersburg Utilities Division Water System are advising residents in the City of Petersburg who live in the following areas:

405-441 Beauregard Ave., Between Jackson Ct. and Parkwood Ct.
1900-2012 Burks St.
410-422 Greenwood Ave., between Coggin St. and Beauregard Ave.
2104-2032 Jackson Ct.
700-720 Sunset Ave., between Cumberland Ave. and Windsor Rd.
1906-2020 Cumberland Ave., between W. South Blvd. and Sunset Ave.
1901-2019 Windsor Rd., between W. South Blvd. and Sunset Ave.
711 Brookside Ave.

A total of 94 homes are affected.

As a safety precaution, boil tap water or use bottled water for drinking and cooking. This precaution is necessary because a water main repair resulted in a loss of pressure.

DO NOT DRINK TAP WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST
Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, beverages, and food preparation, and making ice until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water. Boiling is the preferred method to ensure tap water is safe to drink. Bring all tap water to a rolling boil, let it boil for one (1) minute, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water.

If You Cannot Boil Your Tap Water
An alternative purification method for residents without gas or electricity is to use liquid household bleach to disinfect water. The bleach product should be recently purchased, free of additives and scents, and contain a hypochlorite solution of at least 5.25%. Public health officials recommend adding eight (8) drops of bleach (about a teaspoon) to each gallon of water. The water should be stirred and stand for at least 30 minutes before use.

Water purification tablets may also be used by following the manufacturer's instructions.

We will inform you when you no longer need to boil your water. To address this problem, we are flushing the system, sampling for chlorine, and completing required bacteriological testing. We anticipate resolving the problem within 24 to 48 hours.
