PETERSBURG PREPARES FOR POSSIBLE FLASH FLOODING TONIGHT
Petersburg is asking citizens to stay off the roads tonight if possible, during heavy rain. The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for the region from Tropical Storm Elsa. “The City team is prepared to address storm issues that may occur tonight,” says City Manager Stuart Turille. “Our main concern is to keep Petersburg citizens safe and secure during emergency situations.”
Heavy rain is expected to start this afternoon and continue through late tonight. Accumulations of 2-4" of rainfall are possible with higher amounts in some areas. The forecast includes increased winds.
Petersburg’s Department of Public Works, Police, Fire and Emergency Management are prepared for the possibility of flash flooding. The Public Works and Utilities Department has completed the following:
