Petersburg Circuit Court Clerk the Honorable Maytee “MY” Romero de Parham has been awarded two Circuit Court Records Preservation (CCRP) program grants totaling $44,058.75. The grants will be used for local records preservation and digitization so that the records will be available to the public through the clerk’s online records management system. The grants are the first to be awarded to Petersburg since 2017. “The record books reflect the history and generational culture of Petersburg,” said Mrs. Parham. “It is critical that the information held in these books, dating back to 1781, is preserved and made accessible for future generations to better understand the evolution of our city.” The grant money will be used to conserve the following:Deed Book Hustings Court 11, 1839-1841; Deed Book Hustings Court 2, 1790-1790; Deed Book Hustings Court 4, 1811-1815; Deed Book Hustings Court 52, 1889-1890; Deed Book Hustings Court 53, 1890-1891; Deed Book Hustings Court 54, 1891-1892; Deed Book Hustings Court 6, 1819-1821; Index to Wills Hustings Court 1, 1784-1944; Maps Property Identification Maps; Minute Book Hustings Court, 1781 1791; Plat Book Hustings Court 1, 1787-1895; Will Book 1, 1833-1856; Will Book Hustings Court 1, 1784-18.The CCRP is a collaborative program between the Library of Virginia and the Virginia Court Clerks Association (VCCA). Funded through a $3.50 portion of the clerk’s recordation fee, the CCRP provides resources to help preserve and make accessible permanent circuit court records stored in the 120 circuit courts and at the Library of Virginia.
