A Life of Purpose and Impact: Remembering Colonel Porcher L. Taylor, Jr.

 

Mayor Sam Parham, Petersburg City Council, and Petersburg Administration and Employees express their deepest condolences on the passing of Colonel Porcher L. Taylor, Jr., a true community leader. 
 
Our thoughts are with his beloved wife, Ann, and his family during this time of loss,” said Mayor Parham. “Colonel Taylor's legacy is one of a well-lived life marked by profound contributions to Petersburg and beyond.” 
 
Colonel Taylor served as an esteemed education administrator, professor, and advocate at Virginia State University, where he played a vital role in shaping the academic journey of countless students.
 
Throughout his life and career, Colonel Taylor exemplified the values of dedication, excellence, and service. He served as a positive role model for the youth of Petersburg, inspiring them to strive for success and make meaningful contributions to society.

 

Colonel Taylor dedicated himself to many organizations and initiatives for over fifty years, including the P.T. Taylor & Downtown Churches Walk for Hunger, striving to enhance unity and progress within the Petersburg Region and his community.

 

As a member of the Tuskegee Airmen, the first African American aviators in the United States military, Colonel Taylor’s historic achievement showcased his bravery, skill, and dedication to serving his country. His valor and service in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam also symbolized the essence of heroism and patriotism. His exceptional leadership in the military left a lasting impact on his fellow service members.

 

Honored with Lifetime Achievement Awards, including the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award, Colonel Taylor exemplified unwavering dedication to excellence and service, enriching his country and his hometown of Petersburg.

 

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Colonel Taylor for his endless contributions that have made Petersburg a better place for all,” said Mayor Parham. “May his spirit of commitment and compassion continue to inspire us.”
