The City’s Department of Cultural Affairs, Arts and Tourism is proud to announce the City of Petersburg 2nd Annual Black History Month, celebrating “a century of Black life, history and culture”. From films, tours, food, fashion, art, dance, education and more, the City will commemorate the rich African American history within Petersburg during Black History Month throughout the entire month of February.
“Petersburg is built on a proud legacy of African American history,” comments Brian Little, the City’s Director of Cultural Affairs, Arts and Tourism. “It is important for the city to highlight our great history and provide an opportunity for the community, and more importantly our children to learn, honor and celebrate.”
Thank you to the Black History Month Planning Committee, Petersburg Public Schools, Virginia State University, Gillfield Baptist Church, area restaurants participating in the discounted dining promotion, Virginia Cooperative Extension Service Virginia State University, and all performers and participants.
Most of the events are free and open to the public to attend. The full schedule can be found at www.petersburgva.gov. For more information, please call (804) 733-2430.
