[ARCHIVED] City of Petersburg Hires New General Manager of Petersburg Area Transit
Charles L. Koonce, Jr. has been hired as the new General Manager of Petersburg Area Transit (PAT) and will begin May 15, 2017. Previously, Koonce served as the Director of Operations at the Williamsburg Area Transit Agency since 2015, where he supervised over 70 employees. Prior to that he was the Director of Safety and Training at the Raleigh, North Carolina Capital Area Transit from 2010 to 2015 where he supervised 200 employees. Koonce is a resident of Petersburg and studied law enforcement at both the Community College of Baltimore, and Vance-Granville Community College in Henderson, North Carolina. He has served on the US Marshall’s Task Force and the US Secret Service Task Force. His military career began in transportation while serving at his duty station in Fort Lee from 1982 to 1983. According to Koonce, “Petersburg is home to me. After I retired from the Baltimore Police Department, I moved back home. I am confident I can make Petersburg an even better place to live by running PAT.”
