P.O.W.E.R.

Our Mission

Young people growing up in our community will be well educated, with a strong foundation of basic skills, thinking skills and personal skills to be effective workers and good citizens.

What is the Petersburg Office on Youth P.O.W.E.R. Program?

  • P.O.W.E.R. is a Youth Employment and Training Program that prepares youth for the 21st Century workforce.  The P.O.W.E.R. Youth Program is designed to prepare youth to obtain their high school diploma and enter post-secondary education, occupational training or employment.

 

  • The purpose of this program is to provide meaningful work experience and train­ing to youth ages 16 – 21 who resides in Petersburg.  The program provides case management, leadership development activities, job readiness training, and summer employment to enrolled individuals.

All participants enrolled in P.O.W.E.R. are guaranteed access to the following elements, based on a comprehensive individual assessment:

  1. Tutorial Services, study skills training, and instruction, leading to completion of secondary school, including dropout prevention strategies
  2. Alternative secondary school services
  3. Employment opportunities that are directly linked to academic and occupational learning
  4. Work Readiness Training
  5. Occupational Skills Training
  6. Supportive Services
  7. Leadership Development
  8. Mentoring
  9. Comprehensive Guidance & Counseling
  10. Tutoring
